FEAR ITSELF

Americans are taught to be afraid of government, afraid of their public servants, afraid to ask where their authority comes from.
Why?
Government only has power that the people have delegated to it. Without our consent, government has no power, outside of securing rights.
How can we say "no!"?
The ballot only allows "yes".
If you can't say no, then there is no real consent... just sufferance.
So how do Americans exercise the power to grant or withdraw consent?
Ask the public servants. Unless you're too afraid to.
Or read the law. Unless you're too afraid to learn the truth.

"Besides the ADVANTAGE OF BEING ARMED, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, ... forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the GOVERNMENTS ARE AFRAID TO TRUST THE PEOPLE WITH ARMS...”
- - - James Madison, Federalist Paper #46.
